Bahraich Burning: Communal Tensions Erupt, Police Officers Suspended Amid Chaos

In the midst of Bahraich communal tension, Hardi police station in-charge Suresh Kumar Verma and Mahsi outpost in-charge Shiv Kumar have been suspended. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has appealed to religious organizations.

The people are outraged against the police administration regarding the incident in Maharajganj town of Mahsi tehsil in Bahraich district. Considering the anger, SP Vrinda Shukla suspended Hardi police station in-charge Suresh Kumar Verma and Mahsi outpost in-charge Shiv Kumar.

SP Vrinda Shukla stated, “The SHO and Mahsi outpost in-charge have been suspended for negligence in their duties. A thorough investigation into the entire incident is underway. No one found guilty of dereliction of duty will be spared.”

However, despite SP’s action, public outrage persists. People claim that CO Rupendra Gaud also showed negligence and used batons. They demand stringent action against him.

Communal tensions escalated during Durga Puja processions on Sunday in several districts, including Bahraich. A dispute over music in Maharajganj town turned violent when youths from another community started stone-pelting, damaging the Durga idol. Protesters demonstrated, and six police stations and PAC personnel were deployed.

Similar incidents occurred in Gonda and Balrampur during immersion processions.

The Maharajganj incident sparked protests across Bahraich. Protesters blocked Bahraich-Sitapur highway at Chahlari Ghaut bridge and Fakhrpur town. Durga Puja Mahasamiti halted immersion ceremonies in the city, holding back hundreds of idols.

Eyewitnesses claim that the Mahsi tehsil procession was peaceful until it reached Maharajganj. Sonar Abdul Hamid, along with his sons, started abusing and pelting stones. Protesters demonstrated, and Hamid’s supporters arrived, sparking riots.

CM Yogi Adityanath ordered strict action against those attempting to disrupt peace in Bahraich’s Mahsi. He instructed officials to identify and take tough action against rioters and ensure immersion processions continue uninterrupted.
