UP Floods: Don’t Be Fooled by the Cool Breeze, Summer’s Not Over Yet!

Lucknow, Sept 29

Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a devastating spell of rain as the monsoon prepares to bid farewell. The past two days have seen relentless rainfall, causing rivers in the Awadh region to swell. The situation has been exacerbated by rainfall in Nepal.

The incessant downpour has resulted in 17 casualties across various districts due to house collapses and electrocution. The worst-hit area is Awadh, where Ambbedkar Nagar saw four fatalities, including two elderly individuals, due to wall and house collapses. Sultanpur reported two deaths from house collapses and electrocution. The Rapti River in Shravasti has crossed the danger mark.

Senior meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh warns that the respite from rain will be short-lived. “From Monday, the easterly winds will weaken, and the sun will shine bright, leading to a rise in temperature again.” Singh adds that the monsoon will weaken across the state from Monday.

The past few days have seen a significant drop in temperature due to continuous light rain, overcast skies, reduced sunlight, and humid easterly winds. Lucknow’s temperature plummeted by 10 degrees Celsius in four days. The difference between day and night temperatures narrowed to just 3.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Since Tuesday, the temperature has been dropping, with Lucknow’s maximum temperature reaching a mere 26.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
