FIR Ordered Against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Over Electoral Bonds Extortion Allegation

Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court has directed the registration of an FIR against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in connection with an extortion allegation tied to the now-scrapped electoral bonds scheme. Adarsh Iyer of the Janaadhikara Sangharsha Sanghatane filed the complaint.
The Special Court for People’s Representatives instructed the police to file the FIR, naming Sitharaman and others involved.
Regarding the development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned whether Sitharaman would resign following the FIR. He stated, “An FIR has been registered against a Union Minister for extortion through electoral bonds. Shouldn’t she step down?”
Siddaramaiah also demanded resignations from Prime Minister Modi and JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, accusing them of corruption-related charges.
