Indian Navy rescues 19 Pakistani Nationals from Somali pirates

An Indian warship rescued 19 Pakistani nationals from armed Somali pirates in its second successful anti-piracy operation in the Arabian Sea.

INS Sumitra rescued 19 Pakistani nationals from Somali pirates who were trying to hijack a Pakistani fishing vessel and arrested 11 pirates.

Somali pirates tried to hijack the Pakistani ship Iman off the east coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden through an Iranian-flagged fishing vessel on Sunday night. Indian Navy’s INS Sumitra has thwarted the evil of pirates.

“INS Sumitra foiled the attempt of hijacking the Pakistani vessel MV Iman by pirates who had arrived on an Iranian-flagged ship. “Another kidnapping attempt has been foiled by Indian forces,” officials said.

On January 24, when a similar hijacking of FV PM 29 was attempted, the crew of INS Sumitra thwarted the hijacking attempt and released the crew safely. On January 5 and December 23 last year, the Indian Navy foiled a similar kidnapping attempt by pirates off the coast of the Arabian Sea.
