BSP Tamil Nadu Chief killed by six men on bikes

Tamil Nadu Chief of Bahujan Samaj Party, Armstrong, was hacked to death by six bike-borne men on Friday near his house in Chennai.

The attackers hacked Armstrong while discussing with a few party functionaries near his house in Chennai’s Sembium area. They immediately fled from the murder spot. The family members of Armstrong rushed him to the nearest hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Police have arrested eight individuals in connection with the case.

According to the police officials, the murder could be an act of revenge which is being linked to the killing of a gangster, Arcot Suresh, last year. “We are conducting an investigation. The murder seems to be linked to an earlier killing,” a senior police officer told NDTV. “In the murder case, we have secured 8 suspects so far. This is a preliminary investigation. Ten teams have been formed by us. We are on the job to bring the offenders to light. After the interrogation of these suspects, we will be able to find the motive behind the murder. Some sharp weapons have been used,” Asra Garg, senior Chennai police officer said.

According to some reports, the attackers posed as food delivery agents but the police have not confirmed to this. Meanwhile, the opposition party has taken a deep dig at the DMK party of Tamil Nadu and said that killing is the latest evidence of the deteriorating situation of law and order across the state. AIADMK leader, Edappadi Palaniswamy commonly known as EPS said, “What do I say when the state chief of a national party is murdered? The law and order is shameful. There is no fear of law or the police”.

Armstrong, a lawyer by profession, was elected to the Chennai Corporation Council in 2006. He rose to fame after he organised a mega rally in Chennai in 2022 and had invited BSP chief Mayawati. According to Mayawati, Armstrong was a strong voice for the Dalits and other oppressed castes in the society.
