India has emerged as the 2nd largest ‘5G smartphone’ market overtaking America

New Delhi: India has emerged as the second-largest 5G smartphone market globally, according to a report by Counterpoint Research. While China remains the top market for 5G devices, India’s rise is driven by the growing availability of budget 5G smartphones from brands like Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

Prachir Singh, senior analyst at Counterpoint Research, noted that the surge in 5G handset shipments is fueled by the increasing presence of affordable 5G models in emerging markets. India now holds a 13% share of the global 5G smartphone market, trailing China’s 32%. The US, with a 10% share, has fallen to third place.

Globally, Apple leads in 5G handset shipments with over 25% market share, primarily from the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 series. Samsung follows closely, capturing more than 21% of the market, thanks to its Galaxy A series and S24 series.
