Hundreds of MBBS Seats Unfilled in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Hundreds of undergraduate medical seats under the management quota at private medical colleges in Karnataka still need to be fulfilled, just weeks before the end of the current academic year. High tuition fees, ranging from Rs 26 lakh to Rs 45 lakh, are deterring students from pursuing these seats, as reported by Deccan Herald.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has scheduled a mop-up round of seat allotment to address the 596 vacant seats, including 453 under the management quota and 135 under the private quota. Only seven seats remain available under the affordable government quota in private colleges.

Despite the remaining vacancies, college management is optimistic about filling the seats during the mop-up round. They point to last year’s experience, where 20 seats were filled in the final round.

The KEA has instructed college management to maintain the declared fees under the management quota, preventing fluctuations that could lead to student dissatisfaction. Students who secure a seat but cancel it will be penalized and barred from future counseling, including All India counseling.
