Delhi Commission for Women issues notice to police over rape of minor girl

New Delhi: The Delhi Commission for Women has sent a notice to the police regarding the rape of a 15-year-old girl in the national capital. Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal has sent a notice to the New Delhi Police seeking a report on the incident. The girl, who lives with her family in Madangir, Ambedkar Nagar, went missing on the night of March 23. When I lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police, they asked me to wait till morning. In the morning the girl returned and informed that she was sleeping on the terrace. The father said that the girl’s behavior changed after the incident and she became silent, the women’s commission said.

The commission has inquired about the details of the accused arrested in the case and the reason why the other accused were not arrested as stated by the girl’s father. The girl has stated that her neighbor boy raped her on the night of March 23. The complainant says that she was told not to tell anyone about the incident or she was threatened to kill her family.

The complainant alleged that from October 2018 to January 2019, another man who lived in the building of his house in Sangam Vihar sexually assaulted his daughter.
The police commission has been informed that a case under Section 376 IPC and POCSO has been registered at the Ambedkar Nagar police station. However, the FIR mentions only one accused and not the others. Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal and member Vandana Singh reached the hospital on Tuesday and interacted with the girl and her family. The Commission has also sought details of the steps taken by the Delhi Police to record the statement of the survivor.
