Factory fire takes the life of six workers in Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra

Six workers died in a major fire which took place at a hand glove and jacket manufacturing company which is located at Waluj industrial area which is Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar at 2 am on Sunday.

There were in total 13 workers present inside the premises of the factory when the fire broke out but only seven of the workers were able to make out their way from the office by coming out from the roof of the factory. Police inspector along with MIDC Waluj Police station, Ganesh Chate said that the workers hailed from north India. He also added that they were sleeping and woke up sensing heat coming inside the factory.

“The exit door of the factory was inaccessible due to the fire. The flames had rapidly spread across a major portion of the factory and caused the death of the six workers possibly due to suffocation and burning,” he said. The bodies have been sent for postmortem at a government hospital after the identification process.

Police also said that some of the workers were able to reach the ceiling of the factory and jumped off with the assistance of the nearby tree. Chate said, “These workers reported minor scratches on their bodies. Their health condition is okay.”

Police said that the owner of the factory is Saber Khan Pathan. “We are recording the statements of the workers and others, following which an offence will be registered. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained,” police added.
