Heatwave alert in Karnataka; Bengaluru to experience sweltering heat within few days

Bengluru’s problems do not seem to end. At a time when the city is already trying to grapple with the water crisis management, another problem is knocking the doors of the city and that is the coming heatwaves in the city.

The city breached 40 degree Celsius mark on Wednesday with Kalaburagi and Bagalkot districts recording the maximum temperatures of 40.6 and 40.2 degree Celsius respectively. The IMD has also annonced a heatwave alert in total six districts of Kalyana Karnataka for the coming three days, with day temperatures in Bengaluru expected to sour as high as 42 degree Celsius.

Weather experts and scientists said that a heatwave is usually announced when the temperature crosses the 40 degree Celsius mark besides also an increase to up to 4 degrees in the normal temperature.

“While the condition is expected to be severe in Maharashtra North Karnataka districts such as Kalaburagi, Yadgir and Ballari are set to experience a heatwave and warmer nights over the next three days,” A Prasad, senior scientist, at IMD Bengaluru explained.
IMD officials also revealed that March has not received the required level of rainfall so far. “With a clear sky and dry weather across Karnataka, any rainfall is unlikely over the next three days,” he further explained.
