Rs. 500 notes worth 88,032.5 crore mysteriously disappeared!


New Delhi: The Freepressjournal.in has reported that Rs 500 denomination currency notes worth Approximately Rs 88,032.5 crore have disappeared from the Indian economy has come to light in response to the details sought by RTI activist Manoranjan Roy under the Right to Information Act.

According to RTI details, out of 8,810.65 million notes of Rs 500 denomination, only 7,260 million notes have been received by the Reserve Bank of India.

Roy has informed that no one knows the whereabouts of Rs 500 notes worth Rs 88,0320.50 crore.

According to RTI information, Nashik’s currency note printing press supplied 1,662.000 million notes in 2016-17, while Bangalore’s printing press supplied 5,195.65 million notes and Devas printing press supplied 1,953.000 million notes during the period, while the Reserve Bank received only 7260 million notes.

According to the information, the Nashik Press had printed 375.450 million notes of Rs 500 denomination between April 2015 and December 2016, but RBI has only records of 345.000 million notes.

Out of the 1760.65 million notes that went missing, 210 million notes were printed at the Nashik Press between April 2015 and March 2016. According to RTI, these notes were supplied to the RBI when Raghuram Rajan was the Governor.

It is reported that Roy informed the Central Economic Intelligence Bureau and the ED about the missing notes and demanded an investigation.
