Suspicion of terrorism: NIA conducts simultaneous raids in Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad

CHENNAI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting raids on suspected terror-related centres in Tamil Nadu and Hyderabad. Raids will be conducted in Coimbatore, Chennai, Thenkashi and Hyderabad from Saturday morning.

Searches are being conducted at 22 places in Coimbatore alone and four places in Hyderabad. Police sources said that a coordinated search has been launched at the places where terrorist links are suspected. A DMK councillor in Coimbatore is also a suspect, the agency said. On October 23, a suspected terrorist’s car blew up in Coimbatore’s Ukkadam under suspicious circumstances. Then the NIA raid was conducted at the Arabic College in Coimbatore.

The raid is part of investigations into the Tamil Nadu-centric IS network. Meanwhile, NIA sources said that Tamil Nadu has registered a new case related to ISIS. Apart from Chennai and Coimbatore, raids are also underway in Neelankarai, Ayanavaram and Tiruvika Nagar.
