Wing to wing collision between two planes in Kolkata, no casualty

A slight collision took place between two flights at Kolkata Airport on Wednesday. While one of the flights was flying to Chennai, another flight was fling to Darbhanga. The two planes had collided wing to wing.

The incident took place at around 11:10 am.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the accident. While the impact of the collision resulted in breaking off of the wing tip of Chennai-bound aircraft while the wing of another plane collapsed due to the impact. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation was informed about the incident. A high-level investigation into the matter has been initiated by the aviation regulatory body.

Air India Express spokesperson said, “The wingtip of a taxiing aircraft of another airline grazed one of our aircraft, which was stationery and awaiting clearance to enter the runway at Kolkata for a scheduled operation to Chennai. The aircraft has since returned to the bay and further investigation is underway, for which we are at present coordinating with the regulator and airport authorities. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the guests due to external circumstances.”
