Maharashtra government in crisis, might be dissolved

With Eknath Shinde rebelling against his party the Maharashtra coalition government, the Maha Vikas Agadi (MVA) is likely to be dissolved. It all started with Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde rebelling against his party and taking scores of MLAs with him to Gujarat. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackrey have removed him from the party. On which Mr. Shinde tweeted in Marathi :

“We are Balasaheb’s staunch Shiv Sainiks … Balasaheb has taught us Hindutva .. We have never and will never cheat for power regarding Balasaheb’s thoughts and Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Saheb’s teachings”.

As the Maharashtra government’s turmoil rises, this morning Shinde and his rebel companion MLAs have been reported to have reached Assam’s Guwahati. Mr Shinde has claimed over 40 MLAs are with him and asserted that he will not be switching parties.

He had demanded that the Sena restore its alliance with the BJP and jointly rule the state, sources said. Several BJP leaders also met Mr Shinde in Surat amid speculations that he might join the BJP along with other MLAs, reported NDTV. Mr. Shinde has also removed ‘Shiv Sena’ from his twitter bio.

Deccan Herald reported that Shiv Sena President and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray spoke to Eknath Shinde on phone, in what is being termed as an “emotional” call.

The Maharashtra government is a coalition government formed by the MVA consisting of Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP. Now with dozens of Shiv Sena lawmakers’ rebellion, led by Mr. Shinde, the Maharashtra government is likely to collapse.
