Mumbai Businessman Ends Life by Jumping from Atal Setu

A 52-year-old businessman, Philip Shah, tragically lost his life on Wednesday by jumping off the Atal Setu sea bridge connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This marks the second such suicide on the bridge in just three days, following a similar incident involving a banker on Monday.

Shah, a resident of Matunga, drove his car onto the bridge and parked it before jumping into the sea. CCTV operators noticed the parked vehicle and alerted rescue teams, who recovered his body from the water. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Shah was pronounced dead upon arrival.

His identity was confirmed using his Aadhaar card found in the car, and police believe he may have been under significant mental distress before the incident. A case of accidental death has been registered at the Nhava Sheva police station.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, or Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL), opened in January this year and is the longest sea bridge in India, stretching 21.8 kilometers.
