Former BJP Leader Ashok Tanwar Rejoins Congress at Rahul Gandhi’s Haryana Rally

Chandigarh (PTI): In a significant political shift just days before the Haryana Assembly polls, senior BJP leader and former MP Ashok Tanwar rejoined the Congress at a rally led by Rahul Gandhi in Mahendragarh on Thursday.

As Gandhi was concluding his speech, Tanwar, who had joined the BJP earlier this year, made a surprise appearance on stage. It was announced, “Aaj unki ghar vapsi ho gayi hai” (today, he has returned to the Congress fold). Tanwar, once a close ally of Gandhi, had left Congress in 2019 due to differences with Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

His return is seen as a significant boost for the Congress, which is aiming to regain power in Haryana. Tanwar, a prominent Dalit leader and former Haryana Congress president, was warmly welcomed by Gandhi, Hooda, and other senior leaders, including K C Venugopal.

Tanwar’s political journey has seen him briefly align with AAP and Trinamool Congress before rejoining Congress. His return is expected to bolster the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections.
