Sachin Tendulkar Joins National Cricket League, Aims to Boost Cricket in the US

Washington/Texas (PTI): Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has joined the ownership group of America’s National Cricket League (NCL), marking a major development for the sport’s future in the United States.

“Cricket has been my life’s greatest journey, and I am pleased to join the NCL at such an exciting time for the sport in the US,” Tendulkar said following the announcement.

Tendulkar praised the NCL’s vision to build a platform for world-class cricket while inspiring a new generation of fans. “I look forward to being part of this initiative and witnessing cricket’s growth in the US firsthand,” he added.

The NCL’s inaugural tournament promises a Coachella-like atmosphere, with performances by singer Mika Singh and themed nights, according to a media release. This season will see cricketing icons like Sunil Gavaskar, Wasim Akram, and Vivian Richards mentoring younger players.

Top-tier international players, including Shahid Afridi, Suresh Raina, and Chris Lynn, are also set to participate.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Sachin Tendulkar to the NCL family,” said Arun Agarwal, NCL chairman, who highlighted Tendulkar’s global influence, comparing him to legends like Pele and Muhammad Ali. Tendulkar will present the championship trophy at the tournament’s conclusion, marking a historic moment for cricket in the US.

Headquartered in Dallas, the NCL is introducing an innovative Sixty Strikes format, adding a fast-paced twist to traditional cricket.
