Mocha Cyclone Threat: High Alert in West Bengal

Kolkata: A high alert has been announced in the coastal part of West Bengal due to the increased intensity of Cyclone Mocha on the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast. Also, a National Disaster Management Team has been deployed and mobilised to deal with any potential situation.

Already 195 km per hour on the Bangladesh-Myanmar coast. The wind is blowing fast, and the people in the coastal areas have been evacuated. Also, it is 250 km from Cox’s Bazar. The Meteorological Department said that the storm has spread over the area.

In this background, NDRF personnel have been deployed in 24 Paraganas district and coastal areas of Purba Medinipur, West Bengal. Seven teams and drivers of the NDRF have been deployed in the coastal areas of Digha and Mandarmani for protection. In addition to this, 100 more personnel of the State Disaster Management Team have been deployed to warn locals and tourists not to go near the sea.

Apart from this, arrangements have been made for people to be evacuated in case of any situation, and shelter camps have also been planned to be constructed as a precautionary measure, officials said. The fishermen of West Bengal have been warned not to go into the sea, and the IMD has warned that there is a possibility of the cyclone crossing the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in any case.
